HAND FASTING

A hand fasting ceremony dates back hundreds of years and in some cultures offered a 'trial marriage' or a year and a day. For others, it could state a different time, eternity or 'as long as the love lasts'.

Handfasting cords are used in the ceremony to bind the couple's hands together as a symbol of their becoming one.

Many elements can be incorporated into what is a beautiful ceremony where the family and friends can play an integral part. Some couples choose this option to replace a legal commitment whilst others will perform the short, legal ceremony at the Registry Office beforehand and then at a later date enjoy the handfasting ceremony with family and friends.
